time-to-learn

Take a quiz and Help yourself Revise your learning.

We are talking about a strong learning environment’s characteristics in this post. Learning process is yet another complex procedure which involves environmental and psychological science together. It is not as simple as it seems. The ways of learning and habits always keep changing for a good reason. It depends upon student’s intelligence quotient, his aptitude, curiosity level, revision of data learned; time period, creative skill and collaboration that how strong a learned material has stuck to his mind. Diverse methods of learning have been introduced in different ages to make learning strong and long lasting. It not only enhances the capability to keep facts stored to mind but also develops an understanding between facts and human personality.

There are basically 8 reflective questions that are presented in front of students to ask from their own selves to give a strong hold to their learning process. And the questions are;

  1. What surprised you today?
  2. What is the most important thing you leaned today?
  3. What do you want to learn more about?
  4. When were you most creative today?
  5. What made you curious today?
  6. When were you at your best today?
  7. Where should you start tomorrow?
  8. What can you do with what you know?

Now keeping it simple, we might assume it a simple small survey, or an inquiry you may call it. A survey or an inquiry is set for two purposes mainly. First of all we do it to discover something or to go deep down a matter. Secondly, our further assessments are based upon the survey results or the facts we have gathered through inquiry. So to keep it that simple, we should take it that we are putting ourselves at an investigation table. And what benefits we are actually gaining from that; we will be discussing in detail ahead.

The very first question is simple yet interesting that what surprises you today?

Being surprise is the first step of getting indulged into some matter. Surprised heighten curiosity level. When you will recall in your mind that what surprised you the most, it will lead you to the question that arouse in your mind at that time and you decided to dig the answer of that question. It will recall the whole process in your mind.

Second question, most important thing today you learned today allows you to pick the best out of the massive learnt material. When you chose the best at your own, you can never forget that ever in your life. There are several things that you have heard, sensed or witnessed in a day. Not everything is important enough to get set into your memory. So at this stage you will pick the best learning of the day.

Third question, even more interesting, calls you to dig more about the fact you have already discovered. It asks from you if you have any questions, any doubts or glitches about the knowledge you gained. You must ask yourself that at what point you are getting confused so that you can work hard to get it answered and make your learning even better.

Fourth one reminds you that your creativity is unique and it is important for your life. If you feel like at some point you were being creative, you will definitely try to pick that specific environment or matter for your future projects.

Fifth one asks again for where you were curious the most? You must have understood that curiosity is something that belongs to the roots of learning. If you are not curious enough, you will not be ready to discover at all.

Sixth question is asking you to be aware of your best skill, your ability, you top most sense and your strength. When you will try to remind the moment when you felt performing the best, you will know deeply about yourself. It will help you to plan your journey ahead.

Seventh, as you must have guessed through the previous question, is asking about your plans for the next day. Will it be something relevant to your previous learning? Will it be something new? Will you renovate some existing ideas or start things from the scrape? All of these decisions come under seventh question.

And finally the eighth question, is trying to make you think about what actually you can do with the thing you have learned. Is it something practical? Can you get some benefit out of it or it is lame? Will you try to put it somewhere in a situation and try to solve any matter through it?

Benefits you gain from reflective questions:

What actually you gain from reflective questions, it looks like a matter of neurology. But it is something more than that. Met cognition, prediction and reflection are the main pillars of strong learning. This process actually takes students back to the learning setup and lets them revise what they have learnt. They get thoughtful about their own feelings and senses.
